Lyrical tenor. Acclaimed Artist of the Russian Soviet Federative
Socialistic Republic (1936). Received the Stalin Premium (1951).
Studied vocal in Second St-Petersburg
Technical College
(1922-28) with A.J.Porubinsky.
In 1927-28 - participated in the choir of
St-Petersburg Capella.
In 1928-1954 - soloist of both the St-Petersburg Kirov
Opera Theater and St-Petersburg Malyi Opera Theater.
In World War II staid in the besieged Leningrad (St-Petersburg) in harsh conditions and continued performing under constant German bombings, realizing how important the opera and the art of singing was to the spirit of Leningrad's residents.
Among his roles: Bayan, Yurodiviy, Levko, Berendey,
Lensky, Duke, Almaviva.
In 1953-63 taught in St-Petersburg conservatory.
