Karapetyan (1882)
Lyric-dramatic tenor. People’s artist of the Armenian Soviet
Socialistic Republic (1954).
Graduated
from the law school of the Moscow Universirty (1904-09). Studied vocal in Astrakhan musical college (until 1904), and from 1906 – in
Moscow Drama
College, then – Moscow conservatory (class of U.Mazetti).
After
finishing his studies he made his debut in Moscow “Free Theater” of K.Saradzev.
After
that he sang in Tiflis (1911 — 1912), Perm (1912—1913),
Kiev (1914—1918), Kharkov,
Kazan, Saratov, Riga, Sverdlovsk (1925—1926),
Baku (1926—1927), Astrakhan
(1929—1930), Novosibirsk, Tashkent.
In
1933-1947 – soloist of the Armenian Theater of Opera and Ballet.
In
1942-1955 – director of Erevan college for
choreography.
Among
his best roles: Lensky, Sadko, Gricko (“Sorochinsky fair”), Almaviva, Alfred,
Duke, Jose, Cavaradossi, Pinkerton, Nadir, Kote (“Keto and Kote”), Ashug Ashug
(“Almast”), Nazar Khadz (“Brave Nazar”).
