Nelepp (1904)

tenor. Born on April 29th in a village
of Bobruyki near the city of Chernigov (Ukraine).
People's artist of the USSR
(1951).
In 1930
graduated from Saint-Petersburg Conservatory (class of I.S.Tomars).
From 1929
to 1944 - soloist of the St-Petersburg Kirov Opera Theater, and from 1944 to
1957 - the Bolshoi Theater.
Nelepp had
an exceptionally beautiful, noble-timbered voice and a superb scenical
appearance, leaving a legacy of some unforgettable renditions of his roles.
Among his
roles: Imposter-Prince, German, Yuriy, Sadko, Sobinin, Mihailo Tucha, Radames,
Jose, Florestan, Enik, Kahovsky.
Was also
performing in concerts where he sang romances and folk songs.
Received
the Stalin Award three times (1942, 1949, 1950).
